Dr.sc.ing Liga Grase is a leading researcher and assistant professor at Riga Technical University, Faculty of Material Science and Applied Chemistry, Institute of Materials and Surface Engineering. In 2017 she defended her PhD thesis regarding phase transitions in tin sulphides induced by Nd:YAG laser irradiation.
Her main research interests are focused on the investigation of the micro- and nanostructure of different materials including laser-processed semiconductors, metals, and polymers. The recent topics are laser-induced phase transitions in semiconductors and the formation of periodic surface structures on metallic surfaces including stainless steel, titanium, and titanium alloys to enhance tribological and antimicrobial properties.
She has 35 scientific publications indexed in SCOPUS database. She has participated in different national and international scientific projects, for example, DAAD, ERAF, H2020. Currently, she is holding post-doc position at Riga Technical University and working on the topic of multifunctional titanium and titanium alloys produced by laser pulses. In 2015 she received “The Best Presentation Award for Young Researchers” at the conference “Inter Academia 2015” (Hamamatsu, Japan) and in 2018 – The Annual Award for Achievements in Energy Industry for Young Researchers, organized by Latvenergo AS and the Latvian Academy of Sciences.
